The expenses you incur to buy property in Greece, even in the islands may involve additional expenses over and above the cost of the property you have already paid. These additional expenses involved electricity and water bills that have to be paid by you. The bills may be in the name of the landlady but it is you who have to pay them. Electricity bills depend on your use. Water is cheap and does not matter.  What worries your landlady is the telephone bill. She is quite apprehensive of your escape without paying the huge bill that has accrued in her name thanks to your hundreds of calls.

In such cases the landlady may either ask for more deposits or change the payees account by putting your name in the bill instead of her. This seems to be a better option to avoid inevitable hitch over phone calls made. Similarly, while the landlady is responsible for heating the house or apartment but ultimately the cost is divided among the dwellers of the apartment in Greece.

Some apartments that are properties for sale may have no heating system or no elevator have low cost in terms of additional expenses incurred by you. A few others do not have the cleaning maid either. In such cases you do not pay any common expenses. Few however, will like to live in such inexpensive albeit hazardous way.
