My father has worked for many vinyl windows contractors over the years and I always wondered why he had not just started up his own business. I decided to ask him several years after he retired and he said that he was just perfectly content with working for someone else. It made him have less responsibility than a guy who actually was one of those vinyl windows contractors.

He could go to work every day, get done what he was expected to get done and then clock out and go home. The guy who owned the place had to make sure to check every job, deal with employees and if there was ever any sort of problem, he had to deal with it.

I suppose that he made sense and besides, when I need to get some new replacement windows for my house, I know that there is a guy who has lots of connections to the contractors in the city. I am actually quite sure that my father could even still help me install those replacement windows, even though he is retired. He could at least give direction, if all the lifting and manual labor became too much. He is really good at giving direction, if you want to hear it or not.
